As the internet progresses and the speed gets faster a lot of people are
switching to high speed access such as DSL or Cable services. And while your
ISP is working to extend access to these connections in some areas dial-up
speed is the best way to connect.
To maximize the most out of your dial-up connection's speed, try these
simple steps..
1) Check your Copper
Your computer accesses the internet via a normal household phone cord
plugged into its modem jack and eventually into a phone jack in your house.
Make sure that this cord is as short as possible and not bundled or wrapped
up with other wiring. Keep it free from kinks and objects that might
puncture it.
Finally make sure that this cable is plugged directly into the phone jack on
the wall. Dont plug it into other devices that split or share the wiring.
The less separations in the wire the better.
2) Hit the Accelerator!
Mosaic Telecom offers acceleration services that condense and optimize popular
online content. With smaller files to download
you save time but experience the same content.

3) String it Along
On many systems (Windows XP and above) you can use a modem string to adjust
the maximum throughput of your connection. This may lead to a slower top
speed but it will make for a much more consistent connection which will
react faster since it wont have to make several retries.
- Open up the modem icon in your Control Panel folder.
- Select the "Modem" tab.
- Click the "Properties" button.
- Click on the "Advanced" tab.
- Enter one of these lines in the "Extra Initialization Commands"
- +MS=11,1
- +MS=V34
- -V90=0S38=0
- Click OK on all the screens and close everything else up. Restart
your computer and try the connection again. If you receive an error or
the string doesnt seem to help repeat these steps and try the next
string. Make sure you restart after every change.
